Our heart is for our local area, which is the San Gorgonio Pass area of Southern California. Centered around the city of Beaumont, the area also includes the communities of Yucaipa, Banning, Calimesa, Cherry Valley, Oak Glen, and Cabazon.
Why the Pass? Because we live here, work here, and our kids go to school here.
Eric’s Story: My parents moved us to Cherry Valley when I was in the 8th Grade and they lived out the rest of their lives here. I’m a graduate of Beaumont High (the old campus that is now San Gorgonio Middle), Crafton Hills College, and UC Riverside.
In my younger days, I worked at a local garden center and then at two different Kmart locations in the area (the 1st one is now Food For Less and the 2nd one was remodeled into Hobby Lobby, Big Five, and three other stores.)
I bought my first house in Yucaipa and have stayed in the area ever since, even when I had a career that sent me traveling all over the western USA for weeks at a time. This area is my home; this is where I brought my bride and where we are raising our kids.
Amy’s Story: My first exposure to the area was as a kid, when my parents drove me to Yucaipa to see my great-grandfather, who lived in one of the mobile home parks in town.
Many years later, I met this guy (Eric), fell in love, married him, and followed him to the Pass area.
We are Christians. As followers of Jesus, we’ve learned the importance of beseeching our Lord daily for His help and wisdom. We know how vital it is to worship our Creator, our Redeemer. We’ve learned that we need the Holy Spirit’s comfort and direction.
Above all, we’ve learned that we cannot do anything worthwhile without Him:
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
(John 15:4-5 NASB)
